Sweet for Sonia and Afaa

Heart and head
Brass and woodwind

His house had lions
Symphony in his arms

Soundtrack forgotten
Until a friend reminds you
Via the internet

Something you should
Never forget

This is the road
Take it

How Jazz birthed you
When no one else cared to
Bop the days of your youth

Roll up here Rah soon

This warm day in October

There are Wooly Bears and
Paper wasps everywhere

Yellow Legs and Tree Swallows
Murmuring

So many Blue Heron
in one place

I’m compelled
To point them out

I’ll write it

A kayak trip
Through the marsh
Hunting the best
Photographic subjects

The expensive camera
       My expensive camera
In a ten year old's hands

What was I thinking?

The red knot in my throat
Wants to know

It all works out

He takes a few shots
Anyone would be proud of

And we talk
About things we like

That which we don’t

What we’ll do next
Time

We see Wooly Bears
And Paper Wasps everywhere

Carcass as Mitigation - Emergency Measures

Poor Pachyderm court ordered put down
For stomping to death several handlers

You could say her end was permitted

Edison the elephant executioner
Laced his victim’s last meal
With cyanide
To insure expediency

The electrocution
Merely
A warning against the dangers
Of alternate current

Tesla
I’m sure fantasied
About Edison’s
Demise
Occurring in much the same manner

Nicola never forgave Alva
The man owed him money

Menlo was an evil wizard

You owe me nothing
Have nothing I want
Yet I find it impossible
To pass your idiocy by
Without considering cyanide

I would not
However
Electrocute you

Snow and Ice infused with Sand

The gravity of the moment
First look at your reflection

How
Like a Beagle’s your eyes
Have become

You follow your nose
When you look for your keys
Grope for your trousers

This dream lies in the shadows
Waiting for the sun
Be there to meet it

Wait

Move through the morning
On bare feet and tiptoes
Take a walk to the water
Make sure that you listen

Whirls the sand and snow
Hellion of heavy weather
How
Like an enraged demon the ocean’s become

Know this
Keep everything covered
When you walk in a nor’ Easter
Lest some flying cosmic debris
Snatch off your hat

A real nightmare

At first light take stock of the damage
Once the wind subsides
Marvel at the quiet

Pick up the pieces

People Will Talk

People Will Talk

The play write bemoans
Through his character’s
Well stuffed mouth
How much better
Butter was
When we was young

Uses an academic
Peeling a knockwurst
Poking around for
More cabbage in the pot
To make his point

Wonder how he’d feel
About x-mas dinner
